The PGA, English Golf Union, English Women’s Golf Association and Golf Foundation are part of the Children in Golf Strategy Group that has been formed to help golf address the issue of child protection. It is essential that those working at the “sharp end” of golf delivery for young people are informed about child protection issues and how it affects the way they work.
The Children in Golf group has worked with sportscoachUK to offer the Safeguarding and Protecting Children (SPC) workshop to those involved with junior golf. It is universally recognised within sport and local authorities as an appropriate form of training for sports coaches and volunteers.
Now the “SPC2-Reflecting on Practice” workshop is also available. It is aimed at those delegates who have already attended an SPC workshop and who wish to update their knowledge.
(PGA professionals receive 25 CPD points and 5 CPD points are also awarded by the GCMA to Secretary/Managers for attendance at either an SPC or an SPC2 Workshop).
Only those who have already attended an SPC workshop may attend the SPC2 workshop. The workshops are aimed at Golf Professionals, Junior Organisers, Volunteers and Club Secretary/Managers. The courses have been subsidised by EGU/EWGA and will be offered for £22 per person for SPC and £25.per person for SPC2.
At the workshop, attendees will:
- Discuss what constitutes good or poor practice
- Discuss a range of child protection issues and scenarios
- Be given information on how to respond to an incident or allegation
- Receive a copy of the Guidelines for Safeguarding Children in Golf, an SCUK Resource Book & certificate of attendance
